1906

The Bank of Texhoma opened for business on February 22, 1906, and received deposits of $2,058.94. The first President, J.P.R. Sewell, opened a permanent banking facility, a wooden structure, on the corner of Main and Second Street, and changed the name to The First National Bank of Texhoma in 1907.

1940

The bank survived through the volatile and relentless challenges over the first 34 years. A huge 34-year celebration was held in which the local newspaper named the bank “The Old Reliable”. The article went on to say, “This institution has survived when weaker banks failed.” Frank A Sewell, President, and his father J.P.R. Sewell, the first President, based their business ideals on honesty, dependability, and faithful service to the community.

1976 – 1978

On May 27, 1976, it was announced that the Jack Freeman Family had purchased the Bank. The construction of a new bank building in Texhoma began on February 12, 1978, and the open house for the new building was held on January 26, 1980.  It is located on Third and Main and is three times larger than the old building with a red Spanish tile roof, and a Kansas limestone exterior.  Earth tones dominate the color scheme inside and several original paintings by Stefan Kramer are on the walls.  Many of the scenes are taken from the Anchor D Ranch close to Texhoma.

1996

In February 1996, our second location was opened in Goodwell. John Nye joined the staff as Executive Vice President and Norma Strain as Assistant Vice-President and Manager. A public reception in honor of the opening of the Goodwell Bank was held on April 21, 1996.  The bank was welcomed by the Goodwell community, which hadn’t had a local bank since 1933.

2006

After celebrating 100 years of banking our third location was opened in September 2006 in Guymon, OK. We have hard-working teams of employees bent on giving outstanding service to our customers.  We can take inspiration from our predecessors and call ourselves “Old Reliable.”

2011

In December 2011, The First National Bank of Texhoma became Anchor D Bank. To provide a better bank in the future, we changed from a National Charter to a State Charter, thus requiring us to change our name and remove the word “National”. The name reflects an area ranch founded in 1878. The Anchor D Ranch had various headquarters throughout the widespread trade area that we serve today. The name unique to the high plains, fits us just right.

2020

The Anchor D Bank Board of Directors and Executive Leadership Team announce the opening of a full-service office in Spearman, Texas. In September 2020, Anchor D Bank crossed into Texas with a new location. The office is located downtown at 205 Main Street.  This marks the 4th full-service location for Anchor D Bank whose footprint covers the three counties in the Oklahoma Panhandle, Morton County, Kansas, and Sherman and Hansford County, Texas. “We are very excited to open another office in a community that takes pride in their local businesses and appreciates local, personal service,” Paul Freeman, Chairman.

2021

In late 2021, the ADB Annex opened. The newly constructed facility is next to the current Guymon Location.  The new 10,000-square-foot building houses the bank’s Deposit, Loan, and Compliance Operations along with the Audit, Human Resources, and Training Departments.  Approximately 20 employees have transferred to the Annex, freeing up office space for Lenders, Financial Service Representatives, Home Loan Specialists, and Tellers to better serve Anchor D Bank’s customers at all four locations.

Anchor D Bank remains true to the original founders in providing honest, dependable, and faithful service to our existing communities and taking advantage to expand our footprint in areas that still value and desire a bank that cares about relationships and not just numbers. We honor the name “Old Reliable”: we have survived hard times and have appreciated good times serving our customers.
We are HERE to stay, anchor’d in the past and banking on the future.
